Retinal Vein Occlusion

Retinal Vein Occlusion is a condition where there is a blockage or occlusion in one of the veins that carries blood away from the retina. This blockage may lead to fluid buildup, inflammation, and bleeding in the retina, causing decreased vision.

Risk factors for Retinal Vein Occlusion include conditions that affect blood vessels, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or conditions that increase the risk of blood clotting. Symptoms of Retinal Vein Occlusion include sudden painless vision loss, blurred or distorted vision, and floaters.

Treatment for Retinal Vein Occlusion aims to manage the underlying cause and prevent complications. Interventions such as injection of medicine into the eye, laser therapy or even surgery are required to control retinal complications such as macular edema, abnormal blood vessels growth or bleeding. Follow up with repeat retina imaging are crucial to ensure the effectiveness of treatment and to detect any signs of disease progression. Close collaboration with primary care physician or cardiovascular specialist is necessary to optimize and manage underlying cardiovascular risk factors.
