Macular Hole

Macular Hole is a condition that affects the center of the retina, known as the macula, causing a small opening in this crucial area responsible for sharp, detailed vision. Typically associated with aging and natural changes occurring within the eye, a macular hole can lead to difficulty with tasks requiring detailed sight including reading or recognizing faces.

Macular Holes often develop gradually, starting with symptoms such as distortion of sight or the appearance of a dark spot in the center of vision. Further progression of macular hole may lead to complete loss of central vision and the ability to perform fine tasks such as reading and driving.

In most cases, surgical intervention, such as a vitrectomy with membrane peeling, is necessary to close the Macular Hole. This is usually performed by a vitreoretinal surgeon in the operating room and in a timely manner to prevent irreversible damage to central vision.

Please do not hesitate to contact our team if you have difficulty with your central vision or have been recently diagnosed with a Macular Hole. Our surgical team understands the impact of macular hole on your vision and quality of life and will work closely with you to coordinate care and surgery if necessary and to restore your vision.
